Global Entrepreneurship Week 2015 is November 16th – 22nd.
Around the world, activities will be held week long for one purpose: to inspire and lift up entrepreneurial communities across the globe.
If you threw a dart at a map of the world, aiming for a hotbed of entrepreneurship, where would you hope it landed?
Let’s twist the trope, slightly.
Now, as the dart’s leaving your hand, it becomes sentient and knows exactly where it wants to land. It sticks firmly in Peoria, Illinois. While the usual suspects for startup success (like San Francisco) will most certainly have big plans for GEW, lesser known communities are planting their flags on the entrepreneurial landscape – with grand plans of their own.
Sometimes the greatest ideas spring from outside the spotlight.
But, in Peoria’s case, life outside of the spotlight might not last much longer.
StartUp Peoria is dedicated to growing a self-sustained ecosystem in Central Illinois. From their site, “It is important to state that Startup Peoria is not looking to become the next Silicon Valley. Silicon Valley is unique. Almost as unique as Peoria.”
Peoria is unique in its resources, talent, and dedication to building a lasting community that can shape the future.
As the startup movement finds deeper roots in Peoria, it’s time to celebrate the entrepreneurial spirit. Peoria’s GEW schedule is packed with activities that are sure to bring more eyes and ideas to a uniquely vibrant startup capital.
Here are a few highlights:
Investor Panel at Bradley University
This event will include both startup storytelling and a live panel of angel investors. It’s the perfect opportunity to learn and become inspired.
1 Million Cups Success Story & Anniversary
Levi Dinkla will tell the story of Digital Doc, born out of 1MC Peoria; and there will be a celebration of 1MC Peoria’s two-year birthday. 1 Million Cups is a free, weekly national program where entrepreneurs can share their story and find support and community.
KeyStart Business Idea Submission & Pitch Competition
KeyStart will host its ongoing bi-monthly pitch competition where four entrepreneurs will present their business ideas to a panel of judges. Competition can bring out the best ideas – in those that thrive under pressure.
OneFire Happy Hour Party
No week is complete without a Happy Hour event. OneFire’s is a celebration, recognizing an entrepreneur and emphasizing the growth and strength of a community.
Don’t miss Global Entrepreneurship Week in Peoria. Talent, ingenuity, and innovation will be on display as a rising community huddles together to continue to build something uniquely impressive in Central Illinois. OneFire is proud to call Peoria and its startup community home.
